CLIMATE INFORMATION
Adaptation - Security - Resilience
Territorial protection
Intelligent land-use planning helps prevent urban flooding and landslides, and limits droughts.
Reforestation, restoration of floodplains and widening of riverbeds limit flooding.
Water retention basins store the surplus.
Forests
Trees increase water infiltration into the soil, slowing down runoff.
Old-growth deciduous forests with undergrowth are very effective .

River restoration
The meanders slow down the rivers.
Marshes and floodplains allow water to drain away.
Riparian forests
Trees along riverbanks stabilize the soil and prevent erosion. They also protect ecosystems and mitigate excessive temperatures.

Torrents
Retention sills, stepped structures, sediment traps or pre-existing dams slow the flow and retain the stones.
Retention basins and reservoirs
They retain excess water, prevent flooding and can store water for later watering.
